Abstract

This paper’s central aim is to show which have been the main themes that have articulated the international discourse of President Evo Morales Ayma, and how they determine the international insertion of the Plurinational State of Bolivia. We begin by describing the Bolivian socio-political context (2000-2006) and how it fits within “the new Latin-American left”; followed by the analysis of three speeches made by President Morales before the United Nations Organization (UNO), in order to find common elements or features in his international discourse. The first speech was delivered before the UN’s General Assembly on September 19, 2006 (his first intervention before this agency). The second, on September 24, 2007 (Summons to discuss climate change). The third and last was delivered on December 17, 2009, during the XV Summit on Climate change in Copenhagen.
