History and memory, divergent concepts: the challenges of building a common history between Chile and Peru

Abstract

This article introduces the concepts of History and Memory as complex and divergent entities that enable us to understand the implications and difficulties of building a common history between Chile and Peru. The presentation of the concepts is done through a theoretical review of their divergent character. Together they enable us to understand the complexity of building a Common History, but they also suggest that a consistent effort over time on this issue would be important move towards the integration and improvement of bilateral relations between Chile and Peru.
