The dual policy of Chile in the Falklands War: between diplomatic neutrality and cooperation with Great Britain

Abstract

The discussion regarding Chile's involvement in the Falklands War has been primarily focused on intelligence cooperation with the British, with its diplomatic aspect often sidelined. In this work, we aim to challenge this perspective by suggesting that Chile pursued a dual policy that sometimes conflicted with each other: one of diplomatic neutrality and another of military collaboration with the British. In this sense, the diplomatic dimension was not merely an excuse or a facade but was somewhat independent and had its objectives. However, both shared the same ultimate goal: to assist in the defeat of Argentina in the conflict.
