The rural experience of the José Bello Oliva settlement during the political conflict between Socialists and Communists in Machalí 1961-1967

Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the emergent settler's movement across Machalí county through the experience of José Bello Oliva Settlement, which developed during the political disagreements between the Socialist Party of Chile (PSCh) and the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh) from 1961 until 1967. Accordingly, we seek to express the learning process of José Bello Oliva's settlement around its gaining of political experience, which influenced the political parties in that context. The goal will be achieved by analyzing official documents such as neighbour declarations, photographs, and settlers' oral testimonies to conclude the catalyst role of José Bello Oliva's settlement around the conflict between the PSCh and the PCCh.
