Abstract

This paper analyzes and reflects on the current tension regarding the proliferation and denuclearization in North Korea. After an incident during 2017 and a later detente in 2018, it has become necessary to, once again, analyze the current standing of North Korea’s nuclear program. The very existence of the program strains the global nuclear architecture and contributes to the current power struggle between the United States and China. This work was developed based on primary and secondary sources and attempts to tackle issues such as the capacity of states for nuclear proliferation, the validity of North’s Korea nuclear program and the present and past tension between the United States and North Korea, and China’s role is taken into account with regards to the containment, proliferation and/or elimination of North’s Korea nuclear program.
