Illegality, state weakness and co-opted State reconfiguration in the Caribbean Colombian Region

Abstract

This article aims to carry out a descriptive approach to organized crime, specially paramilitarism and criminal bands and their political relationships in the Caribbean Region of Colombia, from the perspectives of center-periphery and co-opted State reconfiguration, in order to analyze the causes that made possible the emergence, development and evolution of different illegal armed groups, which by means of force, or the real threat of its use, have managed to install social orders in this region of Colombia and dispute the State ́s monopoly on force, tribute and territorial control.

Investigador Asociado del Instituto de Altos Estudios de América Latina y el Caribe, Universidad del Norte.
